Video Gaming Trends: Zombies

So this is a column I've been meaning to post since my blog started back in October. It takes a look at some of the trends in video gaming these days. (The ones I notice, at least. :P)

Be it Cake, cliffhangers, explosions, guns, or cookies, if it's in a game, I'm interested!

So, without further adieu, let's dive in!

Zombies....Zombies everywhere

Yep, that's right! Those slow, shambling, moaning dead folks, who are looking for some brains to feed on. Or a leg. Or an eyeball. Or a face. Or any body part they get their hands on.

Whatever the case, they became quite popular, quite fast.

(In the secular world at least; they're not so popular in Christian circles, for obvious reasons.)

You don't have to look far to see where video games have incorporated them, with titles like Dead Island, Left 4 Dead, The Walking Dead, Dead Space, Dead Rising, Dead Nation, Red Dead Redemption; Undead Nightmare, Touch of the Dead, Rock of the Dead, Dead Hating, Dead Living, Dead of the Dead, Dead Dead, Dead Deader, Deader Dead, Deader Deader, Deader Deadest, Deadest Deader, Deadest Deadest, and Hannah Montana: Music Jam.

The last one is disputed, though. Don't know why. But anyways:

How did they become so popular? Like I said, I don't know, but I think because many people have a fascination with what happens after death, and since zombies are a variation of it, they became popular.

See? Basic. Isn't that good enough?

Okay, maybe to basic, but let's move on; I'm going to talk about the versions of zombies in video gaming:

(At least, the ones I have seen in my short time observing this trend.)

Most of the time, it's some kind of virus turning people into infected, who have an insatiable hunger for human flesh. They are referred to as zombies, but they are technically not actually zombies. They're infected. Big difference!

The genuine zombies are when DEAD people come back, and then shamble around, hungry for human flesh, which is the part I don't get; why do dead people want human flesh?

I guess it's because they went without food for so long, and when you've been hungry for so long, you don't discriminate when it comes to your diet....if you know what I mean....

Never mind. Getting back to it!

So, the most common one is the virus one. Why is the virus most common? I think it's because it's the most realistic one, thereby the scariest one too. People love scary for some reason. Not me. I love to sleep at night.

But you also get a combination of both of them; the Walkers from The Walking Dead: *SPOILERS-Never mind. Too late anyways.*

A profile of a zombie. (Yes, I'm making fun of Soap again.)

In this variation, when somebody dies, the virus takes over, and they become zombies. If the brain is destroyed beforehand, this doesn't happen.

I don't know how that works, but since there's a lot more to come for The Walking Dead, they may explain more. I'll wait and see.

And.....That's all I can say in the short time I had to write this.

I know, it's short, but my time was unfortunately shorter. Just had to get something up for Monday, and I didn't have anything left to advertise, so....

Nah, I'm just kidding. My fault. Should have done this sooner.

I'll try to make a follow-up, but no promises. I usually don't get to things when I promise them, you see?

In the meantime, I hope you enjoyed this post, despite it's brevity, and I will see you Wednesday with a review!

Goodbye! :P
